How to Convert a CAD File to GLB

This article shows you how to convert a CAD model from common formats into a .GLB file for uploading into Canibuild. This guide covers what to include, how to maintain correct scale, & how to export using third-party tools for both FBX & Revit files.

The only supported file format is .GLB with a maximum size limit of 20MB. This size restriction should include all embedded textures, geometry & materials. Any external folders for these elements will not upload.

Model

Include:

  • The main building or structure only.

Exclude:

  • Landscaping, fencing, site boundaries, contours or lot data.

  • Driveways, paths or patios (unless shown on the floor plan).

  • Mirrored layouts or decorative extras not shown on the plan.

Scale & Units

  • Export your model at 1:1 scale.

  • Use the same unit as your floor plan (Imperial or Metric).

  • Check that all measurements match the floor plan.

  • Do not upload mirrored models.

Materials & Textures

  • All textures & materials must be embedded inside the .GLB file.

  • Do not link to external folders or material libraries.

  • Minor visual variations may appear in Canibuildโ€™s viewer.

  • Use your first approved upload as a visual baseline.
